He was thought to have invented the famous, classic 14-15 puzzles where 15 squares with numerals on them, are shifted about in a tray. “Learn who really invented this puzzle on your visit here,” noted Judith Schulz, director.  The museum offers a variety of this type of puzzle to try out first hand during visits.

Loyd also liked optical illusion puzzles with disappearing images and a sample of one of  these will be available to examine.

During this special event, visitors are invited to see and try to solve the puzzle that Loyd sold to Phineas T. Barnum, of the Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Original Get Off the Earth puzzle added to Archives

We were recently approached by a lady living in the United States who told us a very interesting story. Her father living in the United Kingdom more then 8 years ago, was helping a friend clean out his attic when he came across an old dust covered book. After cleaning the cover he slowly opened the book to discover an original Get Off the Earth puzzle in great condition. He kept the puzzle and later gave it to his daughter who asked if would be interested in adding it to our archives. We jumped at the opportunity and so now this great puzzle has found a new home among other Sam Loyd treasures.
